Our new fences have arrived! After four years of planning, design, and fundraising, we are delighted to announce the completion of our fence upgrade project. Thanks to generous contributions during last year's Big Day of Giving and other community donations, our final sections of custom metal fencing are now installed. Now we have a beautiful, permanent, and low maintenance metal fence that frames the garden’s special plantings and protects them from foot traffic.

Special thanks to Kerry Loux for developing the concept design for the fences for us. City of Davis staff also supported the project by removing the old wooden fence and making irrigation repairs and adjustments. It was a delight to work with talented local businesses to complete this project. Kimzey Welding performed the metal fabrication and M & M Concrete Creations installed the fence panels. The first phase of the project was completed in summer of 2024, and the second and final phase was completed in March of this year.

The fence design features overlapping panels to provide subtle visual interest. This feature also allowed all metal fabrication to be performed off site. The raw steel materials are intended to age to an attractive natural rust finish that won't require painting or refinishing. We look forward to watching the fence weather to it's eventual rich, rusty patina.

The full cost of this project was $49,774, a substantial investment for our small organization. Community donations raised over multiple years were essential for funding the majority of the project. We were honored to receive a $20,115 grant from an international horticultural foundation to take us over the top and allow us to complete the final phase of the fence installation this year.
